Is Double Wood Supplements Reliable or a Sham?

If you are considering buying a product from Double Wood Supplements, but not quite sure if they are a legit seller or just another scam, then this post will hopefully provide some answers for you.

Double What?

The name of the company may be a bit oddly intriguing at first glance, but there is some reasoning behind it; “Wood” is the name of the company’s president: Reese Wood, who together with his brother and co-founder, Evan Wood, launched Double Wood Supplements back in 2015.

DWS is a small, family-owned company located in Philadelphia, PA. They offer a selection of encapsulated dietary supplements that are manufactured in the USA. The company currently only serves customers in the U.S.

Product Range and Quality

This brand focuses on certain niche products, so you won’t just find any dietary supplement you can think of. Since the early days of the company, their primary focus has been on natural supplements in the mental health and cognitive enhancement field.

The following are among the most popular products sold by Double Wood Supplements:

  • Adrafinil
  • Magnesium L-Threonate
  • Alpha GPC
  • Theacrine
  • Centrophenoxine
  • Phosphatidylserine
  • Huperzine A
  • Uridine

All of their products undergo standard safety tests for contaminants and heavy metals. You can view each product’s certificate of analysis (COA) on the company’s official website.

The products themselves are authentic and of high quality, but it is important to remember that dietary supplements work differently for each individual and results can vary from one user to another.

A Note About Adrafinil

Adrafinil is probably the most exotic item sold by DWS. This is actually a synthetic compound that is metabolized in the liver into modafinil. Both adrafinil and modafinil are man-made drugs, not natural substances.

Modafinil is an FDA approved prescription-only drug that has a stimulant and wakefulness-promoting effect. It is commonly prescribed for people who suffer from daytime sleepiness and some sleep disorders.

Adrafinil is unregulated and so it can be legally bought over-the-counter, although it is a precursor for modafinil, i.e. it converts into modafinil upon metabolization in the body.

Many people take adrafinil as a nootropic “supplement” and it is claimed to improve focus and cognitive function. However, these claims are mostly based on anecdotal evidence and lack scientific evidence.

Some people who don’t get adequate sleep, like night shift workers, may find adrafinil useful as it provides a mild stimulant effect. It’s much weaker than prescription stimulants like Adderall or even Modafinil. For a healthy person, it may not be very effective or beneficial.

Due to its pharmaceutical nature, not many companies sell adrafinil, but if you’d like to give it a try then Double Wood Supplements is among the best sellers of this substance — it’s only sold on their official website not on Amazon. Just don’t take it every day; keep it for mentally-demanding days, otherwise, stick with your cup of coffee!

The Main Pros

  • Prompt Customer Service: What I appreciate the most about this company is their dedication to providing top-notch customer service, and they don’t disappoint! Unlike other companies that may keep you waiting for days for a reply, most of the time, DWS responds within a (business) day. They seem to care about and respect every single one of their customers.
  • Quality Products: Their products are made from quality ingredients, so you’re getting the real deal here. All bottles come sealed.

The Main Cons

  • Incentivized Reviews: DWS has been known to offer their customers incentives (free products or discounts) in exchange for a review. This is a common tactic often used by smaller companies who don’t have a massive advertising budget. I think this is OK as long as they don’t ask customers to leave a dishonestly positive review, which as far as I know DWS doesn’t do.
  • A Bit Pricey: You may have noticed that many of their products are relatively more costly than some other brands. But remember that this is a small business, so unlike larger companies that make hundreds or thousands of sales a day, they need a higher profit margin to survive.
  • Most Products are Non-Vegan: Most of their supplements come in gelatin (bovine) capsules.
